Best Sleep Tracking Gadget or App?

Best Sleep Tracking Gadget or App? Whether it's a gadget designed to keep an eye on your movements while you sleep, or it's a smartphone app that listens to your breathing or noise level at night, sleep tracking gadgets and apps can help you figure out whether you're actually getting a good night's rest or you may have a problem to address. This week, we want to know which ones you think are the best of breed, and why.

Some sleep tracking gadgets, like the Fitbit or the Zeo, or any of the other tools that we've covered before, strap to your arm while you sleep. Others are apps, like previously mentioned Sleep Time or Sleep As Droid, alarm clocks that do their best to watch your sleep cycles from your nightstand. We want to know which ones you rely on to help you get a better night's sleep, or identify systemic sleep problems that you may want to see a doctor about. Let us know in the discussions below!

Hive Five nominations take place in the discussions, where you post your favorite tool for the job. We get hundreds of nominations, so to make your nomination clear, please include it at the top of your post like so: VOTE: BEST SLEEP TRACKING APP. Please don't include your vote in a reply to another person. Nominations emailed to us will not be counted. Instead, make your vote and reply separate discussions. After you've made your nomination, let us know what makes it stand out from the competition.

About the Hive Five: The Hive Five feature series asks readers to answer the most frequently asked question we get: "Which tool is the best?" Once a week we'll put out a call for contenders looking for the best solution to a certain problem, then YOU tell us your favorite tools to get the job done. Every weekend, we'll report back with the top five recommendations and give you a chance to vote on which is best. For an example, check out last week's five best mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras.

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it's not because we hate it?it's because it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. We understand it's a bit of a popularity contest, but if you have a favorite, we want to hear about it. Have a suggestion for the Hive Five? Send us an email at tips+hivefive@lifehacker.com!

Katherine Mangu-Ward Talks E-Cigarettes, Cancer, and Pina ...

Managing Editor Katherine Mangu-Ward talked e-cigarettes today on HuffPostLive. Tune in for a vast array of surprisingly scientifically literate guests, stay for host Josh Zepps, who was such a fan of the technology that I suspect him of smoking vaping a Pina Colada?flavored e-cigarette between segments. (Which I would totally endorse.)

A California County has voted to regulate electronic cigarettes like regular cigarettes. Without medical proof they're bad for your health, does this move go too far?

China to get first official taste of Surface Pro outside of North America

China to get first official taste of Surface Pro outside of North America

Microsoft's Surface Pro will mark its first venture outside the cozy confines of the Americas by heading to China on April 2nd, according to its Weibo site. That could also mean that lovers of the convertible tablet in Australia, parts of Europe and elsewhere might also be able to grab one soon -- as Redmond indicated earlier that it would roll out in those countries around the same time. There's no word yet on pricing or availability, but Microsoft recently launched its flagship Chinese store on Tmall, a leading business to consumer platform -- so that would be a good place for shoppers there to start.

The financial mistake 25 percent of America makes

If you?re eyeing your retirement savings in order to keep your head above water, turn your eyes instead to the multitude of tools you already have in your life for coming up with some quick cash or trimming back your spending for a while, Hamm writes.

By Trent Hamm,?Guest blogger / March 26, 2013

A money changer displays one-hundred US dollar bills at an exchange booth in Tokyo. Fixing a short term problem by pillaging your long term savings is never a good idea, Hamm writes.

What mistake? According to the Arizona Star,?more than 25% of Americans are raiding their 401(k)s to stay afloat.

Skip to next paragraph Trent Hamm

The Simple Dollar is a blog for those of us who need both cents and sense: people fighting debt and bad spending habits while building a financially secure future and still affording a latte or two. Our busy lives are crazy enough without having to compare five hundred mutual funds ? we just want simple ways to manage our finances and save a little money.

The only way this even looks like a good idea at all is if?you?re looking?only?at the very,?very?short term.?If you look beyond that, making this move is pretty clearly worse than using a high-interest credit card to pay your bills. In fact, if we?re comparing disastrously bad financial moves, I?d actually prefer to use a credit card cash advance to pay a bill than pull money out of my 401(k) early.

Why is it so bad to tap into your 401(k) early? Let?s use this?401(k) early withdrawal calculator?to see how big the disaster is.

Let?s make a few reasonable assumptions first.?

Lithium Investing: A Visual Guide - Minyanville

In the commodity world, lithium is a rising star as its use and prevalence has skyrocketed in recent years. Thanks to a wealth of new technologies, lithium is slowly becoming a staple metal for a number of products and industries. As one of the lightest metals out there, lithium is used widely in pharmaceuticals, ceramics, aluminum, and a number of clean technology processes. Given its wide spread, it should be no surprise that the commodity has also grown as an investment in recent years.

Lithium 101

Below is a visual guide to lithium, provided by Global X. The video takes you through the ins and outs of this rising star and what sets lithium apart from its counterparts.

Investing in Lithium

When it comes to lithium investing, there are several options on the market that can be used to add exposure to your portfolio. Note that the most direct method of investing in any commodity would be through futures contracts, though such contracts currently do not exist for lithium.

  • Lithium ETF (NYSEARCA:LIT): This fund invests in companies around the world that are primarily engaged in some aspect of the lithium industry. Making its debut in 2010, the fund has gathered $60 million in assets and maintains a dividend yield of nearly 2.5%
  • FMC Corp. (NYSE:FMC): For those who prefer to hone in on a particular stock, FMC is one of the largest names in the lithium industry. The firm, based in Philadelphia, has a Specialty Chemicals segment that is devoted to lithium products. The stock has a market cap of $8 billion and trades over 800,000 shares on a daily basis.
  • Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO): For those looking for a more diversified play, RIO has just recently allocated more resources for lithium production. The firm mines for a wealth of other commodities and resources like copper, silver, and gold as well. RIO is worth nearly $90 billion and is one of the biggest names in the mining world.

This Arduino-Powered Mosquito Killer Keeps Bugs at Bay

This Arduino-Powered Mosquito Killer Keeps Bugs at Bay It's hard to imagine many things worse than a house full of mosquitos. If you need some help quelling an infestation, this Arduino-powered vaporizer can do the job on a custom schedule.

Instructables user jack1986 was having trouble sleeping at night because of all the mosquitos in his apartment. He bought an insect-repelling vaporizer to keep them at bay, but he was racking up a high electric bill by keeping it on all the time. His walkthrough details how he hooked the vaporizer up to an Arduino board so that it would only run at night, or in mosquito-friendly warm weather. It's a pretty advanced project, but if you know Arduino and mosquitos are keeping you up at night, this is a really cool way to get rid of them.

Winning $338M Powerball jackpot ticket sold in NJ

(AP) ? A single ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers in Saturday night's drawing for the $338.3 million Powerball jackpot, lottery officials said. It was the 13th drawing held in the days since a Virginia man won a $217 million jackpot Feb. 6.

Thirteen other tickets worth $1 million each matched all but the final Powerball number on Saturday night. Those tickets were sold in New Jersey and 10 other states. Lottery officials said there was also one Power Play Match 5 winner in Iowa.

The New Jersey Lottery said Sunday that details about the winning ticket would be released Monday, declining to reveal where it had been purchased and whether anyone had immediately come forward. It was the sixth largest jackpot in history.

The numbers drawn were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31. A lump sum payout would be $221 million.

Lottery officials said the 13 tickets worth $1 million apiece ? matching the first five numbers but missing the Powerball ? were sold in Arizona, Florida (2), Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania (2), South Carolina and Virginia.

Powerball said on its website that the grand prize jackpot has now been reset to an estimated $40 million or a lump sum cash amount estimated at $25 million for Wednesday's next drawing.

No one had won the Powerball jackpot since early February, when Dave Honeywell in Virginia bought the winning ticket and elected a cash lump sum for his $217 million jackpot.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever came in at $587.5 million in November. The winning numbers were picked on two different tickets ? one by a couple in Missouri and the other by an Arizona man ? and the jackpot was split.

Nebraska still holds the record for the largest Powerball jackpot won on a single ticket ? $365 million. That jackpot was won by eight workers at a Lincoln, Neb., meatpacking plant in February 2006.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The chance of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is about 1 in 175 million.

Powerball said on its website that the game is played every Wednesday and Saturday night when five white balls are drawn from a drum of 59 balls and one red ball is picked from a drum with 35 red balls. It added that winners of the Powerball jackpot can elect to be paid out over 29 years at a percentage set by the game's rules ? or in a lump sum cash payment.

Oil rises late, finishes week with small gain

(AP) ? Oil finished the week with a gain as traders took their cue from rising stock markets while watching developments in the financial crisis in Cyprus.

Benchmark oil for May delivery rose $1.26, or 1.4 percent, to $93.71 a barrel. Most of that gain came Friday afternoon, allowing oil to post a small increase for the week.

The potential for a financial collapse in the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus has hung over both the stock and oil markets all week. On Friday, the Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.7 percent as U.S. stock investors took advantage of this week's declines and got back into the market. Oil traders did likewise, erasing a loss from the day before.

Cypriot lawmakers were finalizing a new plan they hope will raise enough money to qualify the country for a bailout package and help it avoid financial ruin next week.

But there has been no indication it will be enough to satisfy the country's prospective creditors, its fellow eurozone countries and the International Monetary Fund.

In the U.S., the average price for a gallon of gas held steady at $3.69 a gallon. That's 8 cents cheaper than a month ago and 19 cents below the price a year ago.

Brent crude, used to price many kinds of oil imported by U.S. refineries, fell 23 cents to $107.24 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange in London.

In other energy futures trading on the Nymex:

? Wholesale gasoline fell 1 cents to $3.06 a gallon.

? Heating oil lost 1 cent to $2.97 a gallon.

? Natural gas dropped 1 cent to $3.93 per 1,000 cubic feet.
